Homework

Last week I had homework to hand in. I had to write a letter to Alex to help celebrate her graduation.

I wanted her to know that we try hard to help her be  good person and to be the best version of herself. To know that she has some great qualities but that she can be much more than that if she did hard things well.

In some ways this is really a letter to myself. I see a lot of myself in Alex. Tthe things that I want to see her do better are the things that I want to do better in as well. It’s the being more confident and brave in getting things done. Not standing behind others knowing that you could do better or know another way, but its easier to stay out of the limelight. Actually getting in and getting things done, even if you don’t want to do it, or that it is too hard.

Last week I have gone for 3 runs plus Parkerun on Saturday. These were hard because I haven’t done that in the last month or so, even though I knew I should have. They were hard things to do that could have been avoided by taking the easier path. I just needed to get in and do it to rise to the challenge that I have set myself. In this case it is about being fitter and healthier.

Lets see if I can get up for a run in the morning, and live up to what I ask of my daughter – do the hard things.
