Broncos Members Day at Suncorp Stadium
/Task credit: dedicated family event.
For Christmas, James and I got a 4 day Flexi game Broncos membership after heading a bunch of games in 2017. They listed a number of member benefits but it was really about guaranteeing ourselves a few games, and getting the membership lanyard.
Today was Members’ Day. It was part of the deal so we thought we’d go along. It was at Suncorp Stadium with opportunities to meet some playersand to set foot on the hallowed Lang Park turf. If it wasn’t great, we could always head home early.
Despite plenty of lining up, both of us had a great day as we grabbed plenty of autographs, a couple of photos - a group photo with James and I with legends Kev Walters, Scott Prince and Justin Hodges, and James with namesake James Roberts - a bit of merch and some free ice creams.
Credit to the Broncos. There were fans everywhere and most in maroon and gold. There were plenty of things to be involved in and the players were great. Despite hundreds of fans streaming past for autographs, they paid attention to the members. As people were leaving the ground, Sam Thaiday was halted by a few fans for photos. It was outside the stadium and he was separated from team mates as they headed off for a late lunch. Yet he interacted freely and smiled for the photos. My highlight was Joe Ofahengaue signing James’s autograph sheet, then sharing a fist bump. Great interaction with the kids. He also thanked me for coming and that they appreciated the support. Maybe a trite comment but it’s a little thing that can make a big difference and help builds the connection between the players and fans.
We missed out on a few things - the locker room tours and a few autographs - but all in all it was a good day and I’m glad I was able to share some time with my boy.
